In Loving Memory: Karen L. Sleeter

Karen L. Sleeter, born March 23, 1948, passed away on December 26, 2021 at Baptist Health and Rehabilitation Center with her husband of 50 years, John K. Sleeter, by her side.

Karen was the daughter of the late Leland T. Weller, Jr. and the late Virginia M. (Quick) Weller. She was a graduate of Scotia Glenville High School and SUNY Cobleskill. She was employed by the General Electric in Schenectady in the payroll department until the birth of their daughter. 

Karen was a lifetime and dedicated member of Centre Glenville United Methodist Church where she served as a lay leader and trustee. She was involved with Mohawk Pathways Girl Scout for many years as an outdoor trainer and camp volunteer. Karen was an avid bowler participating in leagues at Burnt Hills Lanes and Boulevard Bowl. She was an active member of the Board of Directors of the Schenectady Scotia Women’s Bowling Association and the Women’s 500 Club. Shortly before Karen’s illness she achieved the highlight of her bowling career winning her division in the NYS Senior Singles Tournament and was slated to represent the state at the national tournament. Karen also enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening, camping, and spending time at the family’s camp on Lake Abanakee.

In addition to her parents Karen was predeceased by her step-mother Anna Weller and her brother Keith Weller. 

She is survived by her daughter Jennifer Sleeter of Eustis, FL, sister Kristine Weller of Scotia, aunt Joan Weller, niece Courtney Erzkus (Ben), nephews Michael and Robert Frates, as well as numerous cousins who were very dear to her.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff at Baptist Health and Rehabilitation Center for their care and compassion over Karen’s long illness.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, December 31st from 10 to 12 PM at Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Road, Glenville. Funeral Service begins at 12 PM at the funeral home, with burial immediately following at Park Cemetery in Scotia.
