Obituary

Rotterdam – Joan A. Garling, born 1935, passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus at home on Monday, January 25, 2021, after a brief illness, with her loving daughters by her side.

Born and educated in Schenectady, NY, she was the daughter of the late John and Margaret Guevin, a graduate of Mont Pleasant HS and Spencer Business School.

Joan enjoyed many different jobs, one of which made local news as the first woman service writer for Schenectady Plymouth. Joan worked for various area car dealerships, volunteered at the City Mission, and was an avid cook and baker preparing many outstanding meals for church functions and family gatherings until moving to Georgia in ’98 with daughter Linda; both returning to New York in 2010 to be closer to family.

Joan was devoted to her daughters & their families, a woman of tremendous faith, a prayer warrior who deeply loved her Lord, her family, and church family. She was incredibly generous with her hugs and compliments to everyone she met. Even struggling with Alzheimer’s, she was devotedly determined to be a part of every Sunday service. She loved her family fiercely, adored her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and her wonderful fur babies she continually cared for. She loved watching the beauty of nature around her, feeding her backyard animal friends, and doing countless puzzles with family and her dear friend Carol.

Joan is survived by her two sets of twin daughters; Laurie Garling, Linda Garling, Debra (Mark) Kazmierczak, and Doreen (Paul) Casper. Also survived by her grandchildren; Jennifer (Jesse) Eckert, Amanda (Jordan) Noyes, Kelsey Kazmierczak, Rachel (Nicholas) Pieniazek and Aaron and Elijah Casper. Great-grandchildren; Keelin, Logan, Abby and Hayden Noyes, and Cody Eckert. Joan is also survived by brother-in-law Steve Bradley, many nieces, nephews, great nieces & nephews, several cousins, other family members, and several dear friends.

Besides her parents, Joan was predeceased by siblings John H. Guevin Jr. and his wife Linda, Patricia Bradley, Diane Lopez and husband Ben.

A celebration of Joan’s life will be held at a future date.
