Former NY Bills Linebacker Ray Bentley made a special appearance in support of the Tyler DeMarco Foundation at the Children’s Hospital at Albany Medical Center today. Mr. Bentley, now an author of several children’s books and current novel “Driftwood” first learned about the Tyler DeMarco Foundation back in March when contracting book signing appearances through Albany NY Show Promotions owned and operated by Mr. Scott Trudell. Trudell recalls the unique conversation he had with Mr. Bentley’s son and publisher, Ritch Bentley, of Five Count Publishing:
“Here I am talking to this guy so we can set up some local events and all I could think was… these guys are unlike anyone I’ve ever dealt with – they’re just so down to earth. They told me that in order to do the shows they wanted me to recommend a solid local charity that is making a real difference in the community. I immediately thought of the Tyler DeMarco Foundation who is near and dear to my heart!” – Scott Trudell
The DeMarco and Bentley families formed an immediate relationship ever since the first event in Albany back in April. Both families went on to do another show in Syracuse in June. Now, whenever Mr. Bentley does a book signing in the New York region Tyler DeMarco Foundation is his go-to charity. Mr. Bentley refuses to charge for his autograph, instead, he simply asks his fans to consider dropping a donation of any amount in the Tyler DeMarco Foundation donation bucket. Ray then takes a brief moment to explain who Tyler is and the mission Tyler created.
Today Mr. Bentley, accompanied by his wife, Jodi and son, Jake appeared at the hospital with sports show promoter Scott Trudell. They met with Tyler’s parents, Don and Pam and foundation board member, John White. The group visited with doctors and other staff who demonstrated and explained the vital work being conducted at the Children’s Hospital through the foundation’s endowment for “Journeys” program and then toured the new facility including the 11 private rooms that Tyler pioneered and helped create.
Mr. Bentley distributed several of his “Darby’s Christmas Adventure” children’s books while meeting with some of the children currently being treated at the Children’s Hospital. Mr. Bentley then donated 350 of his Darby’s Christmas books to the hospital and personally autographed each one.
